Music Medicine for Combat Soldiers PTSD. I am the owner at Fifth String Studio here in Fayetteville, NC and wanted to send a post out to our military family about the importance of staying connected during and after service, especially for combat veterans having a hard time trying to find their way back to some peace and security within themselves, families, and communities. As a combat vet I know first hand what music can do for a soldier, and have been teaching banjo for several years now in the Fayetteville Community. If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD or Combat Trauma and have an interest in music, please don't hesitate to reach out. It has been one of the best therapies I have used and have taught to use over the past 19 years. Using and listening to music is one thing, but playing music with your own hands is something quite different, and I have seen it make a difference not only in my life, but the lives of many military students over the years, both active duty and retired. Banjo and Bluegrass are my things, but if not this brand/genre of musical therapy, then I encourage you to use the music of your choice with the instrument of your interest. It will make a difference. And there are of lot of instructors here in the Bragg area that would love to help. We also try to locate music instructors with military history in all other areas of the country as well, and are willing to help locate someones need if asked.
