Kim Bolen RN CCM ACM No matter what candidate gets the nod on this position it will be a GREAT Challenge! Anyone with the great credentials will have a large organization to clean up and if they want to be successful it will be the immediate staff and leadership across the country that he puts in place (if he can make changes immediately) that will make the difference in the VA. Congress needs to pass legislation that will allow the Head of the VA to make changes like a normal for profit or non-Profit would make in its leadership if they lack the skill, drive, and ability to manage at their perspective levels. Without changes in procedure and ability to effect change the mountain to climb to fix the VA (in certain areas) will be very steep! Just my 2 cents and I'm no where close to the expert, but I understand leadership, the key to successful staffs that you need to surround yourself with, and the higher headquarters (in this case the POTUS, Juducial Branch, and Congress) providing top cover and support.

Kim Bolen RN CCM ACM after reading the WP link, statistics scream efficiency but as a nurse and patient, I wonder what the nurse to patient ratio is and what the complexity of patient care is. It is easy to give a thousand flu vaccines in a single clinic in a 2 day window with plenty of staff, is effective and prevents large epidemics, hospitalization and/or death. However, treating patients with multiple comorbidities would take much longer. I need more than statistics. Ok, they got same day appointments. But was the problem diagnosed correctly? What follow up care is available? Basically I am asking how does he look at the frontline where direct patient interaction occurs. Other extraordinary people have not been able to make this transition. The VA is a behemoth. Sgt Gus Laskaris
