Not familiar with the tradition completely, but I have seen how important it is to Navy SM's. I am glad to hear it. On a side note, I hated wearing what was called a Class B dress uniform (short sleeve shirt with no jacket). All that was authorized was name tag and rank. No ribbons and I could not wear my infantry cord. Nothing to distinguish infantry from armor or finance. I missed out on the khaki dress uniform, which allowed for all the accoutrements. Unfortunate for army infantry types., but GO NAVY!

Back when I was in they had come out with specialty badges(mine is services) they delayed the badge because not enough were made to at least give every body one. What they did do was retro activate back quite a few years so Veterans in Veteran Svc orgs. Could get them when they came out finally. I finally got hold of it but wanted to save it. So I took a pic of it with my rack so I could have it embroidered on my V.F.W. shirt. Still waiting to do that..
