I hold to my belief that they are utilizing an ebb and flow tactic. They will willlingly give ground to take elsewhere. Or give ground to surround said ground that was given up so they can then re-engulf it.

Would say that you may want to expand that a bit - they are fighting in 3 dimensions - and the ebb and flow on the ground for terrain is not the important one... except to US. It is in understanding how to make war in the new age that marks how an insurgency goes global... yet the efforts against it are not.

LTC Eric Udouj - agree, sir. COIN seemed to be working, but the plug was pulled on it. In order to defeat an enemy like this, you have to reach the people they are trying to recruit before they are recruited.
