comparing the 2 reminds me of the kid game "gotcha last" - you did it first, no I didn't, yes you did, did not, did too...well you did it more, did not, did too, I'm telling on you

Snowden is an idealist. He carved out a niche of the "privacy faction" and has used it to justify his actions. This interview is just another example of applying the double standard as another attempt to justify his actions. If the privacy piece doesn't work, then try the double standard bit. There were other ways for him to bring his concerns public and still maintain security. He not only went public from afar and in so doing weakened our ability to keep us safe, but who knows what other information he has provided since to parties unknown. The security of the Nation far outweighs any privacy concerns. The FISA courts may not be perfect but at least they exist. If people expect total privacy and total security they are fooling themselves. If one doesn't break the law then they should have nothing to worry about, but it's not realistic to expect total privacy and total security. So, we have to choose between the two and I choose security. He should never be given a pass but if wants to return and face the music I'd envision some flexibility depending on his level of cooperation. Maybe not but I doubt he'll ever get a total pass.
