Sgt Wayne Wood this came up in my twitter feed, and I had to laugh. I saw a news report that said there is a small issue with the nomination. There is an obscure law that requires the Secretary of Defense to be 7 years departed from the military to maintain civilian oversight of the military. As if General Mattis is going to suddenly not be a marine three years (as he is now) seven years, or ten years after his retirement from Active Duty. Once a Marine, always a Marine. I think it is stupid anyway. Why would you want someone removed from the military as secretary of defense? I hope Congress acts to make this happen as they did for Marshall.

The reason for the removal from the military is so that civilians control the military from the government and not the military controlling the government. So that only civilians are in control of everything.
