1000 jobs is not a lot relative to the total jobs in the US or Indiana. I think that is self evident. The message the Carrier engagement sends is that Trump is serious about engaging to keep jobs here and to bring more back.

What would have happened to those 1000 jobs had HRC won? Do you think she would have placed the call, worked to save them. If you do you are living in a fantasy land Disney might like to consider for it's parks. They would be officially gone.

These are 1000 families with mortgages, electric bills, tuition payments, healthcare insurance etc. etc. etc. It is not a small number if you are among them.

The incentives are likely a part of the overall corporate tax structure Trump is looking at for corporations. There could be some incentives from the state, that is not unusual. Bottom line, the jobs are staying. 1000 families are breathing a sigh of relief.

Consider the current presidents action on this issue too. Was a finger raised to engage? No. Those 1000 families were cannon fodder for him.

"Just a short few months ago, Trump was pledging to force United Technologies to “pay a damn tax.” He was insisting on very steep tariffs for companies like Carrier that left the United States and wanted to sell their foreign-made products back in the United States. Instead of a damn tax, the company will be rewarded with a damn tax cut. Wow! How’s that for standing up to corporate greed? How’s that for punishing corporations that shut down in the United States and move abroad?"

SPC Erich Guenther - Why would they be nervous? Donald is the one putting band aids on gunshot wounds. He just created a new standard: "Keep half of the jobs in the US in exchange for tax cuts." Imagine how many companies would just threaten to move jobs. Also, almost all hate groups are solidly Republican.

SSG Jessica Bautista - That standard was set a long time ago between the states and I don't see a whole lot of companies abusing it. I think the practice of states competing between themselves should be outlawed when taxpayer money is concerned. In regards to Carrier $7 million in taxpayer money for 1000 jobs is chump change. Wisconsin under Democratic Governor Doyle offered Spanish firm Talgo $30 million for a mere 500 jobs. You tell me which is better. At any rate I am all for using tax incentives to keep jobs from moving overseas to an upper threshold being that the tax incentives are never greater than 50% of the tax impact of retaining the jobs.

Except he "saved" jobs that weren't even going to be moved. And the company is still shutting down another plant. He gave them a free $7mil.
