Hunter is a strong advocate for many wrongs committed on military members. He has been the sold voice of reason to bring many cases to light and get them corrected.
As long as politicians are involved in general officer positions then we will have politics involved in the military. That includes an unrealistic expectation of risk management.
Examples of political fallout from past incidents where leaders failed to mitigate risk include the reflective belt while deployed and in a camouflage uniform, the requirement for people, such as myself with 20 years of service, to still sign 'safety pledges' and have vehicle inspections by non-mechanics before I can take leave, the requirement to take endless online training courses to check some required block...the list goes on.
At the end of the day, it is silly that when an incident occurs and the investigating officer determines that there was nothing else we could have done, some lackey is ordered to come up with something and it becomes holy writ.

Hunter is a great guy and one of the few politicians in Washington who truly cares about the troops and will go out of his way to help them when he can.
