The reason for the photo of and utilization of poppies on Remembrance Day, COL Mikel J. Burroughs. The photo is of the author.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
By John McCrae, Lieutenant Colonel, Canadian Army

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915
during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium
after the death of McRae's good friend and
student, Alexis Helmer.

Thanks for letting us know that Canadian veterans are celebrated on Remembrance Day. I hope that most of Canada honors its military service veterans COL Mikel J. Burroughs
Canada fought against us early on in our war for independence and the war of 1812. After that they became stalwart allies especially from WWI onwards.
Kudos to each of those who served in the armed forces of our northern ally.
Thanks for tagging me LTC Stephen C.

My closest friends on my most recent deployment were in Canadian force...we had a great time and definitely honor them as our "brothers in arms".
