Doubt very much that the author of this "New Yorker" piece has "been there/done that;" an intellectual take on a primal function--War--and a vulgar denigration of the Divine spark within the story's main character. Not a fan of the author of this NYer article; thank goodness for the cartoons.

There is little, if any, reasonable, rational thought coming from the intelligentsia inhabiting that little pissant island stuck in the middle of the Hudson. I’d rather get my news, opinion and reviews from The Onion than from the NYT or New Yorker. When the reviewer uses serious profanity in a supposedly main stream publication as a pusillanimous crutch to mock WW II veterans and religion then you know where his head is.

Interesting review ... and outlook... But If they don't mind i watch the movie and make up my own Mind... I don't need a talking head telling me what I saw...

I subscribed to the New Yorker email alerts on the premise that one must never turn his back on the SOB's of the world. It is, after all, the literary organ of the intelligentsia, those who feel that they are set upon the earth to make decisions for the rest of us.
