This mother lost a child due to a bad decision he made. I've been there. My son chose to cross the road without looking both ways. You are not rational when your child dies. You desperately and uselessly try to figure out what you could have done differently. You desperately want to make some sense of it, when you know you never will be able to. I think we should leave this woman alone. Just because we can say something doesn't mean we should.

The only thing I would say to her is: How can I help you ma'm?

My condolences Maj., I lost a brother to a drunk driver, my reactions was to kick the mans backside that did it, but that wouldn't have brought my brother back, since it happened right in front of me, I had nightmares for years, would fall into deep anger, and was depressed for years. The lady has my condolences, but she has to remember, he son was trying to rob the victim, the victim was only protecting himself.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - Right now, she needs space to deal with her very private grief that has become a national news story.

If the police had killed the young man the people may have demonstrated, and or rioted because of the killing, the victim was protecting himself, he didn't know if the perp was going to shot or not, tough judgement call.

I have had family members go to war in combat arms. If they had died I would have grieved. I would also pray for God to give me grace to accept the death and grant peace to my soul.. Going to war puts you in harms way. I could not blame the person that killed my family member. If you rob you put yourself in harms way. The consequence is on the person that chose the course of action. I do pray for peace for this poor child's parents.
