Lets put the Congress on the same pay schedule as the military and the same code of Military Justice. Force some of the old ones out and keep new blood coming in.

CPT Alfred Smiley, Congress continually abuses their power, fails to deliver promises to the people and the democrats in this particular congress are a disgrace. If you cannot see this, i would say it is you that does not deserve to wear the uniform.

How about we all address either the article directly or simply agree or disagree with the above response without bringing in divisive politics. We're all supposed to be brothers & sisters in arm. Not political trolls as it's becoming more & more apparent *SMH* I seem to remember a time when politics had nothing to do with SM's opinions of each other. But go ahead. Let our enemies continue to further divide us along political lines & it won't be long before we're in a similar situation as we were back in April of 1861....

Sgt Claude Hosch - One it was every 5 slaves would count as 3 people when delegating Congressional Representation. This kept a Blankty Blank Slave owner who owned 10 slaves from having the voting power of 11 people. ionstead they got voting power of seven people. Now why did you want Blankty Blank slave owners to have so much political power?

CPT Alfred Smiley - You need to look deeper than that. It is not the institution, it is the current seat occupants of that institution. That is where we, the people need to vote and not vote for the same people over and over. It is clear that both parties are worried about their agenda, which translates to we don't care about the people. The Senate Majority Leader should not be saying "we'll follow the White House Lead" when that blatantly subverts the checks and balance system our founding fathers ensured we'd have. If we want to get Washington back on track, every voter in the country needs to vote for the challenger and not the incumbent.

Years ago I heard the statement “Officers eat their young.” I saw many great future leaders exit for a civilian career. One told me he loved the Army, I can get treated poorly and make six figures or five. I choose six.

There are more problems than this article has mentioned. At present the system really ignores the Army Ethos they preach. Most Officers today are self serving, they will stab you in the back for a promotion they do not deserve. Yes the OER system is flawed and will continue to be as long as the system is not changed. Commanders do not take into the situation the "Professionalism" or the subordinate Officer's "Tactical and Technical Proficiency". As long as a subordinate Officer kisses his bosses ass he will get a great OER and promoted, not due to his professional abilities, but the feel good syndrome. Yes, the "Good Ole' Boy" system is still creating shitty Officers and Leaders. I know this from my career as most of those above me hated the fact that I thought outside the box. Although I endured the system over a 40 year period as an NCO and later Officer, it worked in both realms. We have to get back to "Professionalism, Tactical and Technical Proficiency and instill Honor and Integrity".

I was offered SGM after I submitted my retirement. I retired. It was too political and self-serving for me.
