I tend to forget that there are lots of members on RP who have heard/know of Linux, Ubuntu and Android but aren't' quite as tech savvy as SGT (Join to see) or SSgt Mark Lines
In this case, Android uses the Linux kernel (even if a slightly modified version of it), but not the GNU libraries that GNU-Linux desktop operating systems use.

You can't leave out myself, SGT (Join to see), or Sgt Wayne Wood when speaking of tech savvy people. ;). But I digress I will read the article in a bit just wanted to point that out haha.

Brief... it's a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) riding a linux kernel.
