Halloween is the one day every year where stolen valor doesn’t apply. So, chill out.
Stepping into BDUs and pinning a bunch of valor medals on your chest when you haven’t earned them is fucked up, and some states have even tried to make it punishable by fine and prison time.
But Halloween is one out of 365 days where this shouldn’t be an issue. It’s the only time of year where civilians like me should be able to put on a flight suit and feel like “Top Gun” to escape the sad reality of sitting behind a computer screen for 16 hours a day.

That's because people are not wearing the uniform to get free stuff like on black Friday. They are doing it because it is fun.

About 15 years ago for Halloween I wore my wife's father's uniform. Someone at the party derided me for not being original and just wearing my old uniform. I found it rather funny as he had served in the Korean war long before I was born (it is an old wool uniform). This is why the stolen valor idiots get away with it, most people who never served don't really know what a proper modern uniform looks like (and to be fair, I don't anymore either).

SPC Kevin Ford, It's not the uniform so much, as it is the awards and decorations. Civilians don't know jack about a uniform or what goes on it, or what the proper way to wear them.
