My first car was a 79 Mustang with a 250 V6, T4 transmission, and positrac - got about 40 MPG on the highway. My grandfather's 72 Silverado (454) still runs. Doesn't get great gas mileage, but...

I'll take one of those old underpowered cars with a carburetor any day. At least they had the advantage of being easy to work on yourself.

In a way, I sort of agree with you, but I have a 1966 Mustang GT in the garage. It has a 289 4 Barrel V8, headers dual exhaust and a very small cam. My 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus V6 can run circles around it. My Mustang sounds way better but my Challenger gets 30 miles per gallon on the highway and I can hear the stereo on low in the car. The air conditioning works and I can use the Bluetooth to talk on the cell phone hands-free. The 66 Mustang only has seat belts in the front seat. It doesn't have a collapsible steering column, it doesn't have hazard lights and it doesn't have a very good heater at all. The car looks great but I would trade it for my 2015 Challenger. That 1972 454 cat least can run on low octane gas and it can be fixed up. I think it smog exempt now anyway so you can get 380 real horsepower out of it and still probably get 10 miles per gallon.

I bought a brand new 1966 Mustang with the help of a neigbor who was a part owner of a racing team. We had a car that was falling apart. Ford wanted him to buy a new Shelby to drive to the race tracks. Loved the Mustang!. In those days the speed limit on the Kansas Interstate was 100 miles per hour. I only kept it for two yrs because my wife was pregnant and I thought a new baby would required a bigger car (yes I was stupid on this one) . However, on the trade-in at the same Ford dealer, I actually got more on the trade in than I paid for the mustang. I never knew till then how great a deal my neighbor got for us.

This is what socialist and environmentalist types want us to be in. Horse and buggy but even the dung puts out methane and CO2.

LTC (Join to see) what the guy says in Mexican slang is ' foxtrot ing gasoline, each time more expensive' so true with the Kyoto Accord idiots of Canada, California and the European Union who raise gasoline prices due to the false notion of climate change caused by man.
