There are still people afraid of coming out as homosexual, same as even for years to come there will be people afraid of coming out as transgender. This not only due to the stigmatization that comes from coworkers in the military but also the family that that person may lose. There is still many anti LGBT people; or anti anything I don't want to understand or like.

I was at Ft Bragg when this came down. One of the Soldiers was a woman and a guy many of us "suspect" might be gay and they came out. Both of them were met with the same response: Silence, the "I knew it" revelatory outburst, and then yelling at them for not getting their work done. After a few days, nothing changed our opinion of those Soldiers and nobody cared.

The military is still the military, and all the fears from the fear monger have proven false.

well I know that there are a few homosexual airmen in my unit and no one cares. I really thought it would have been a harder transition based on attitudes in the early 2000s but it seems that most people just don't really care. I don't know, or am not aware of, any transgendered airmen in my unit though.
