Great plane. I have seen them first hand with 2ACR in Najaf, Iraq. That 30MM ain't no joke. Only one problem with the AC-130. They don't play in the daytime, they are nocturnal. When the proverbial shit hits the fan at 11am and something has to come to your rescue....it don't come with propellers attached. So while there is nothing better for CAS at night than a AC-130...I would not call it the "ultimate battle plane".

I saw it in Najaf also right out side, we also had it flying over supporting us one real bad night, on a Birdge site. There was only us, and 2nd Recon element with ANGLICO attachment, that's who was talking to the bird, but you could here it flying over, and it put us at ease Knowing she was up there.

Where you with the Army MP detachment with 1st MARDIV, MEF, Task Force Tarawa, they had a full Army Contingent with them. .

CPO (Join to see) I was an L&O with the 2ACR in 04' and we relieved the MEF at Camp Duke. God bless all them guys that were there before us, because when we were there that place was a dump. I can only imagine how much worse it was before that. We at least had port'a'potties.

We were with the task Force during the invasion, supporting Combat Engineers with MSR, and combat Bridging mission, it sucked we had nothing, you lived in your one man tent or under the stars, and Gun Trucks. Then after we left Baghdad moved back down south Al Diwaniyah, were I MEF set up a forward HQ, around June 2003. Ya we had shit holes, and Piss pipes, people have NO clue how shitty it was in the beginning.

CPO (Join to see) I rolled around that whole AO for 13 months. Because I was a cop in the civilian world I got attached to train Iraqi Police. I got punished for telling the BN XO how screwed up things were with the training and that is when I got sent to Najaf. Turns out things were not as bad as I thought once I saw how shitty the guys were living in Najaf. I moved all over starting in Hillah, then Diwaniyah, Al Kut, Najaf, and Karbarllah. They called it the AO the Multi National Coalition - Central South (MND-CS). We had most of the coalition troops. Mostly the Polish and Ukrainians.

My hat is off to you to what you had to work with. It had to have been awful!
