first, i don't do LinkedIn. now, on to the issue at hand. the first problem is trading bottom-line for knowledge. a manager will hire a kid fresh out of Junior College with a string of certifications as long as your arm, and then let the old guru out to pasture. hot news flash pointy-haired boss, those certifications only prove the joeboy knows how the system is SUPPOSED to work according to Micro$lop marketing and "whitepapers". you have just sent the guy who knows how things ACTUALLY work to the showers. why? the kid looks good on paper, and costs half of what the old man costs. good luck with that logic.

Last hint, get an old beater laptop, install what you want, the use the linux 'dd' command to capture the disk image to a thumb drive. That way you can play to your hearts cintent & if you get an Uncle Ho or Attila the Hun error you can use 'dd' to restore the original image & start again

I used to be the young guy. Being mentored by a senior Sys admin with 20 plus years of experience. However after about six months he was going to me for answers and was let go. I didn't have the certs and was running circles around him in terms of managing systems and cleaning up his mistakes. Not every fresh kid off the block knows the right ways to do things, but the ones who cert up and are thirsty can be taught the right things. In IT there is only the thirsty for knowledge that should have a place in big IT.
