Romans 12:17-21
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
In my estimation revenge is a horrible and prideful. At best it generates heartburn. The realization that we gloss over own sins. Kind of like a diversion. God punishes not for what we did, as much as for our own pride and the unwillingness to forgive. We better not wish for things that may come true. The costs of hate have a way of doubling-down.
At a racetrack in Arkansas, one fan wished bad upon a driver saying "I hope that SOB wrecks". He was almost killed in a terrible crash, seconds as the driver crashed. It felt like time cam to a halt. Prayers for the driver and his family, fans and myself. I am not clean in the sense of virtue. A spirit of humbleness and shame came over her. Shame and arrogance were suspended in her and a reminder to us. But by the grace of God, go I.
