I watched this documentary a few days ago and am very glad that I did. It makes some strong assertions regarding the prison system and current state of civil rights in America. Unfortunately, I feel that many conservatives may dismiss the information in the movie as exaggerated, as it has a clear liberal slant. I believe that it would have served to the movie well to incorporate more conservative input on the issue, just for the sake of avoiding a clear bias. As you said, though, it was nice that they incorporated two republicans in their interviews.
All this being said, I found the film to be incredibly helpful to White Americans, such as myself, in beginning to understand the struggles of being African American. As Newt said, it is virtually impossible for a white American to understand what it is to be an Black American in this time in history. Documentaries like 13TH, though, certainly help to provide some insight. Thanks for posting this on here. I hope some fellow members take your recommendation.
