Proudly sits there. Kinda makes you wonder what people think the word "proud" means. Maybe defiantly. Probably ignorantly. Perhaps illegally. But not proudly.

From my understanding, this happened in 2015. An IS who thought it was a good idea to not stand or salute the National Anthem while in uniform. She can't exercise her 1st amendment right to do this. She signed a contract that subjects her to perform the duties and responsibilities of a U.S. Sailor and one of those is to salute the Ensign while in uniform. Also being that you are on a military base, you will honor the flag; whether you're in a car, PT gear, civilian or uniform clothing, you will render honors for the Ensign and while the National Anthem is being played.

I am so disappointed in her as a 2nd class and that she was a shipmate. Her cause may make sense, but she can't do that she did. She disobeyed a lawful order and will be reprimanded.

Wondering if she was a 'good sailor' or what her underlying reasons were to step in a cow pie. Maybe she had gone sour already for other reasons and this was a natural progression of her attitudes and feelings toward the system.

Capt Tom Brown - Her FB profile gives a brief glimpse into how she thinks and feels. She asks for support and those who make comments about the incident, are creating FB fights and drama; only worsening the aspect. If this was to get attention, she sure did get it but it's in the worst way possible.

TSgt Frank Shirley - That's scary. It's also sad that she did this to her career and ended up somewhere she didn't need to be.

Why in the world would you serve a country, speak an oath to protect it and the constitution, or sign on the line if you didn't agree with the way things were in that country. She can't say what's happening in the media in the last few years is new. So when she enlisted (which was an actual proud moment for many) she knew what was going on then.

Would be equally interesting to know her story of what happened, what changed her around, is this expression just a lark or a fundamental change? Hope these folks are really committed to their cause.
