There are a multitude of medical conditions which can prevent one from joining (or being drafted into) the military. Some of them do not prevent people from playing sports (Asthma for example). This quest to disqualify someone for not being drafted is stupid. Especially when there have been examples of a President who admitted to actively protesting the war and avoiding the draft.

School deferments were common in those days. There is no dishonor in that. Physical deferments have been common for all time. So, what's the issue?

Correct, they were pretty much automatic. Lots of people avoided being drafted by staying in school or having kids during Nam days.
