COL: Sorry your family is having a hard time. My mother was a drug addict and it ended up killing my brother when he was 15 and her when she was in her 50"s. I am the poster child for anti drugs. I avoid aspirin just to be safe. It concerns me your daughter has been using methadone for over 10 years. She should have been weaned off of it a long, long time ago. I do not know your whole situation but if she is under a Dr care why has this not happened? As for the ACA it was never meant to be successful, it was a Ponzi scam from the start. if you don't have healthcare you are fined? if you do the rates were hiked up to pay for those who don't. I agree it is insane that an American can not get help but we dump billions in to the system for illegal's. Nothing about the ACA helps America and more people have lost their healthcare because of it.

You point out she is making less than 12,000 a year working part time at Starbucks, are there no other job opportunities in your area for her? No full time employment, or the ability to get a second job to help? Till I joined the Military I always had one Full time job and at least one or two part times. Sure I worked 7 days a week and about 17 to 18 hours a day but I made ends meet. If you all live near one another and can help with child care after school that would lessen some of her load.

I am a firm believer in hard work cures all, or the inverse of the saying "Idle hands are the devils workshop"

I hope you all get a break and find the answers you need.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, with a five year old in public school, after school care is equally expensive and she doesn't have the ability to really get a better job. She is damned if she dies or doesn't. I'm so sorry about your family story, but you are making the best of a difficult upbringing. That worries me about my grandson.

Col Rebecca Lorraine - I learned to be self reliant and stand on my own. Nothing was ever handed to me, so my history is well history. I just wanted you to know I understand some of what your dealing with. Does your Daughter not have anyone that can provided child care or help at no cost? Other family members, the fathers family I take it is out of the picture.

On the plus side Trump wants to make Childcare tax deductible, so maybe a break sometime in the future on that.

Another route would be for you to adopt or get guardianship of the child so you can devote the .mil recourse to help. Base childcare ect. That could free the daughter up to look and work a full time job with the medical coverage she needs / wants.

I know someone people in North Carolina that work with people to help them turn their life around. I don't have financial solution for you, but they teach practices that have helped a lot of people, including me. Let me know if you want to talk more about this.

I will, but she really needs an advocate. (Besides her mother) there seem to be so few options and I'm barely holding on to her.

SSG Matthew Adkins - Thanks for that. The state won't cover inpatient treatment. She has no Medicaid. This is my beautiful daughter and my little grandson. It's like poring money into a bitten less pit. It is a disease with little options for treatment.
