I picked up rank on my 3rd year in because a number dropped too low. I got passed by females that I out performed consistently. Not saying it's sexist, I'm saying it's not consistent/fair. Looking good on paper is one thing, doing your job well and having leadership/common sense is another

That is where it is really lacking. Common sense is taking a back road to everything. When you lower the standard to move people into Positions they didn't earn or have no idea what it is to lead. With the whole sink or swim. It cuts back the drive to do better, look better. It sells the rank for cheap. Why work when they will get it anyway. I see that a lot now in the civilian world. I have spent a lot time watching it happen. You try to help them and they are like I don't need help. Don't want to listen.

Time in Grade, or earned thru effort. Boards are for babies who shouldnt be in uniform in the first place ( any uniform). This affirmitive action crap is for civilians. Whats on my sleeve & chest I earned the hard way ( the right way!) No one gave me anything and I didnt enlist for medals and bs decorations. Your title was earned - earn everything else that follows.

Honestly, "if" we're doing what we are supposed to on the Leadership Development front, the board is Unnecessary. If it is followed per the MARADMIN as a coaching and development tool, it has the potential to add value to our process, however, it is more likely to create an artificial roadblock to promotion at the junior grades. We already have a process (non-rec) which allows us to say someone is not ready for promotion.

Sgt (Join to see) - The theory is fine. I'm merely looking at the "machinations" involved. Non-Rec should be active, as opposed to a passive mode, whereas the Board concept inserts activeness into a process that is already well defined. We have competing issues here, and worse Subjectivity which is never good.

The Composite Score system despite its flaws is 100% Objective. Inserting Subjectivity "generally" does not lead to better systems.

Stripes are leadership designations - I know privates with bigger balls than Generals and more smarts than college boy Lt's. The Corps is not the boy scouts - Officer or Enlisted. Earn it or stop crying about why you don't have it.

LT, I should have known that the Corps is much more different than what I am accustomed to. The only Marines that went in front of the Company's or Battalion level was for the Meritorious promotion boards. It seems to this Old War Bulldog that there are too many people involved with this type of NCO'S promotions. Does the Marine Corps do this across each rank structure? I don't think so. So why are they doing now? There are no bad NCO'S, just bad leaders.
