The article doesn't address how the man surrendered. Therefore one can not know.

If he didn't pose a threat (or appear to pose a threat) as he surrendered his saved his own life.

Ummm, did you read the entire article. He shot at two officers, one of them died. And he was still taking into custody. Come on fellow veteran youre smarter than that

SSgt Ray Stone - Yes, I read the article did you? He did not come out shooting nor running at the police. In other word he surrendered. Didn't try to take a cop's gun, didn't reach as if he had a gun etc etc. You just don't get it. Comply when you surrender and you live, keep threatening and the threats are responded to. And it doesn't make a difference who you are. Well, unless you are well known to have injured and or killed before. Even then comply and do NOTHING that might be interpreted as you are about to fight.
