Thanks for the post. A friendly reminder that we as the interviewee needs to mentally prepare for as many possible questions. This demonstrates how well we prepare for what we find valuable to the company. If we are prepared the impression will be that we will prepare for our work. If we go in weak and unprepared, what message are we sending then?

I interviewed for an Operations Manager position and they asked my about managing payroll. I can't remember the exact scenario but they asked what I would do if a big project came up but most of the staff was already at 40 hours for the week. I made up some stuff on the fly, but I don't think it was very smooth. I'd managed duty rosters for years as an NCO, but I never had to worry about someone working an hour or so. I learned quickly that in the civilian world that is a much bigger deal.

An excellent example of what SMs might be asked about as we have to juggle schedules etc, but don't have to juggle payrolls, overtime, etc. Budgets are another item I never had any experience with as the money just was there and all we saw was the end result. Maybe there are other examples of issues or problems found in the private sector not normally encountered in the military?
