SFC (Join to see) No it doesn't show anything but Paul Ryan with a bunch of indentured servants. If you want to use the picture to claim discrimination, then it would have to be accompanied by statistics showing that there is a large discrepancy between the number of minorities who apply to be Capitol Hill Interns, and the number of minorities hired. Otherwise all this is pure and simple is another instance of race baiting without providing the information needed to form an educated opinion.

common now, there is not a single African-american face in that photo !!!!! How can we be so one sided , we are THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, aren't we ??? when will this country unite and finally realize that we are all same human beings , no matter of skin color. We all live on the same planet and as far as i know we all share same air, sunshine and ground. I just want to see this country unite as one and stop this whole minority crap , we are all equal and we don't have price tags attached to us saying who is worth what. Wealth is one thing but we are all equal. Like i said in the past, the political system in this country is dividing us.

SFC (Join to see) - It's funny that your main point contradicts itself. You seem to be both upset that there isn't a single black person in the photo but then point out that we're all human beings despite skin color.

So which is it? Are you mad that there are no black people or are you mad that people are making a big deal about there being no black people?

Let's not forget, equal opportunity does not translate to equal results. Just because the positions are open to black people, does not mean that black people want or even applied for the positions.

Look closely at all the people in the photo. If one looks at the photo closely one can see Native Americans, potentially mixed race individuals, persons of middle eastern descent etc. There is a mix of different personalities in it from various backgrounds. Diversity isn't about having African American people on staff and hiring a black person doesn't make your office diverse. The definition of diversity from Websters is "the condition of having or being composed of differing elements : variety; especially : the inclusion of different types of people (as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization." Diversity means that Women, Men, Young Old, Northerners, Southerners, Black, White, Native American, Middle Eastern, Asian, Latino, European and whatever location or ethnic background you choose bring something different to the table. Just because a photo doesn't include African Americans does not mean they aren't diverse.

I stand by my original point, in order to make a claim as to how diverse the intern pool truly is, there would need to be statistics as to how many applied of each ethnicity, how many were offered internships, and how many actually accepted. Being unpaid, there are bound to be some who were offered the internship, but found paid employment instead. I agree with SFC (Join to see) that in a perfect world the only thing we would see is the quality of the person, rather than the shell that carries it. We don't live in a perfect world. We live in a real world full of hate, angst, fear, ignorance, and the list goes on. That is what we have to deal with. Everyone has prejudices. We don't like to admit it, Hel, we may not even acknowledge it, but it is there. We have things we like and things we don't like. It carries over into how we judge people. It is not just ethnicity. It is color, size, sex, sexual orientation, religion, education, attitude, demeanor, etc... Why don't women make as much money as men for doing the same job? Why do "fit" people get promoted more than fat people? It is all discrimination. The truth is discrimination is ingrained in our culture. We just choose which forms are acceptable and which are not.

We also have a shortage of minority combat arms officers. This has been proven to be the result of fewer people of color choosing combat arms.
What do we do? Force them to be infantry, armor and artillery officers to appease a statistic?

The same applies here. Interns are not paid but instead work to gain experience. Not everyone is willing to do that. Frankly, only those who choose to race bait would even go to the point of nationally pointing this out. It doesn't even come close to solving this (perceived?) problem.

Since when does a selfie have a diversity quota??? No. This has nothing to do with racial discrimination and is grasping at straws at best to make an argument. The black population represents 13-14% of the entire Country's population. So even if you attempted to put a 50/50 ratio in every job position across the Country, eventually you'll run out of black people to fill that diversity quota.

Equal opportunity does not translate to equal result. First, you have to question if any black people are interested in working with/for him. You can't complain about not getting the jobs if you don't apply for them.

Next, if you didn't know this was a group of interns, this could have been a picture of anything. A class reunion. A Mormon family get together. Hell, he could have captioned it "look at all these fools who still trust me".

It's a load of crap to cry white privilege because there's a photo of a bunch of interns. For all we know, they could be unpaid internships... how much privilege is that...
