It's why they go full mill power after touchdown... Just in case the cable breaks or the hook missed.

Wow. Someone had to get a rag and dry that hull off after it landed. As for how often, it happens probably 1 - 3 times per year across the carrier fleet. This is the reason why they always go to full power as soon as they trap (which is why that guy was able to recover.)
