Why does the old series "McHales Navy" come to mind? Until one of these sailors write a book, we may never know what happened. There is no doubt that there was a breakdown regarding our Code of Conduct, but I see a real possibility of CYA coming into play.

We discussed this before but this news story is an update by the Navy Investigator & 9 sailors are to be punished including their Commander.
I was never too comfortable when the Commander made that apology which I have not seen since Korea. Korean War POWs were brainwashed and given drugs while they were in captivity..

I DON'T KNOW what their situation was, and I KNOW that the Rules of Engagement they are under are F###ed up beyond belief, but if I WAS the Boat captain, I would have opened up on them as soon as they stepped on my boat. This is the US Navy. You get relieved for running a boat or ship aground, but you get a medal and another boat/ship for getting one shot out from under you. I'M SURE that after it was over, if I was still alive, the way THIS administration works, some flag rank would try to court-martial me, and run over, me, but I'd just stand my ground and tell him to "Do what you have to do, sir," and speed dial my congressman and the Washington Post. I would NEVER have let them board me and take my crew prisoners without a fight. Even the USS Pueblo didn't do that!!

PS, and I'd invite the threatening Flag Rank to my Medal Presentation! And thank him/her for coming. (Not that they would. But I'd make the gesture. I'm sure they'd get the drift.)
