I think depression is pretty hard to comprehend when you don't suffer from it yourself. My wife suffers from it because of MS. Took me a long time to come to terms with it. It will be interesting to see some of the answers.

I am a proponent of forcing yourself to focus and commit to basic needs and requirements when confronted with PTSD or depression. The first basic level for me is to work on eating, sleeping, hygiene, and keeping the body strong. I colloquially call those Infantry skills. They become innate in nature.

If you have allowed yourself to get out of shape, exercise is difficult at first. But once you start moving /exercising, the better you will start to feel. I love nature and am fortunate to live in the countryside. When my two sons left for the military I got so depressed, gained weight, and became addicted to The Sims. Now I only play Fallout or Skyrim in moderation, and spend time outside working, walking, running, or playing with pets. Get a dog and take it for walks if you can. Your brain will start to release chemicals that help you feel better and handle the world/your problems. Love yourself, try to eat healthy when possible, and find some type of exercise you enjoy. Know that many others have gone through similar situation before you. They made it, and so can you. You have so much to offer the world, but you deserve to give to yourself as well. Namaste!
