I wonder why the Appropriations Act has prohibited the CDC from doing research on Gun Safety?

This is purely my opinion but I believe the reason for the prohibition of the CDC to conduct research into firearm safety is because there are many outspoken doctors who would love to see Americans disarmed. Why would we want to find such a biased group to conduct research into firearm safety when their obvious conclusion would be to ban firearms.

I wonder if it's because owning a firearm is not a disease therefore it's not under the purview of the Center for disease control.
Perhaps the Center for disease control should conduct a study on mentally ill persons that use guns iliagally? that sounds like a good application of their authority and resources.
Gun safety or the lack there of is not a disease there for gun safety is not under the purview of the Center for disease control.
I don't think the department of energy should conduct a study on school lunch programs.
I don't what Department of Education funded for conducting research and a study on the financial issues of the housing market
And I think it's a waste of money and resources to have the Center for disease control conduct research in to owning a firearm and the safety of owning.

Cdc and NIH receive funding to do research fro the American government aka tax payers. There are many statistics on the number of suicides by firearm, child deaths by firearm, murder crimes, and demographic information related to violence across America. Research must have some theory and answer a research question. I'm not sure that would be helpful to anything.

There is a ton of research by NIH on gun violence and the cost to society, families, children and the poor. Check out NIH gun violence.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/12169961/ lots of information and research is available. Unfortunately, a large number of gun owners don't secure their weapons correctly and children do find them. They are used by gangs, they are used by the mentally ill and they are easy to acquire. I don't want to ban guns, but effective regulations on ownership, purchase, storage and enforcement should become a national agenda. The costs far outweigh the benefits. Illegal gun acquisition is always going to be a problem. That should be an enforcement issue separate from legal gun ownership. Gps systems, personalized electronic safety's should be mandated as part of legal gun ownership. I don't think it unreasonable to protect the innocent and reign in illegal gun purchases. Psychiatrist and providers who are concerned about patients should be able to limit legal gun ownership.
Statistical association between firearm availability and an increased incidence of violent death...
