We are backing one set of rebels, Turkey is backing another set of rebels, Russia is backing the existing Government. This should come as no surprise. Like 3 dimensional Chess.

If we win, Syria gets a reasonably moderate government. If we lose ISIS takes power or Al Assad and Russia regain/attain influence in the region, worst case scenario we kick off WW3. Kind of makes you wonder why we are playing this game at all.

We are not on the same side... what happens when the next Russian planes are shot down? Russia is defending Al Assad, we are supporting fighters who are trying to remove Al Assad. Is WW3 what we really want?

^^^ So speaks the person who who supports a snake oil salesman who will make Daesh magically disappear in 5 days or less. Maybe we need to kiss Russia's ass and be their lackeys.
