As former AF ER medic during Vietnam from 1969 to 1973, I've encounter my colleagues dating back to Korea who exhibit moderate to major suffering. i am very worried about them! I chose not to receive care from VAC as combat vets are the highest priority. I was trained in triage, and as a clinical psychologist and professor, I continue to engage in triage, caring for those who are exhibit the greatest need. For the most part, vets are more satisfied w/ their health care than behavioral health care.

I must be careful what I say, but I feel Veterans Choice is not the avenue to turn and will slow vendor payments and cause more stress on veterans in the long run with improper billing issues. The funding is not being used to its potential...... and the contractors working for Choice........ I must stop there. In my opinion that insane amount of money should have gone to the VA for more provider care but because of CYA reasons many want the VA to be less involved when it is actually the very most suited.

Why is that? The VA has already been "double dipping" for years now by charging veterans private insurance for things that should be covered by the VA to begin with. I had to show them a private insurance card on one visit because the staff refused to even let me check in for my appointment unless I showed them a private insurance card. Then I started getting one notice in the mail after another about the VA charging my insurance and I even had to file a congressional inquiry against them in which they lied and said that they would stop charging my insurance. The only reason why they stopped charging the insurance is because I quit working for the company.

Funding is always an issue CW2 Shawn Stevenson and I don't see that fix being corrected much in my generation. I haven't used the VA much, mainly use my tricare as a secondary insurance as I've been fortunate to have coverage during my after-army career. I can very much understand the frustration with SPC Joshua Dawson's experience, I'm certain I would've not been happy with that situation either.

As many times as I have been blatantly screwed over by the VA system I will not trust anything associated with them. They deny and go around their own rules and regulations on a daily basis so why should anyone believe anything that they say at all?
