The ejector port is one the wrong side of the gun for the brass to "fly past his face." As we can see in the photo, he shoots right handed.

We have photographic evidence of at least one potential falsehood.

We can see he's got hearing protection on as well. Artistic License might account for "very very loud" but the spring recoil system combined with having a training instructor are going to prevent any "bruising."

In the immortal words of Adam Carolla "Stupid or Liar?"

The recoil of an AR-15 bruised his shoulder? Is he a hemophiliac? Or just a pussy?

I don't buy his story. I think he was either exaggerating everything to make a point, or he got himself all worked up and freaked out by the time he actually fired the weapon. An AR-15 firing a .223 round is one of the most forgiving guns you can possibly fire -- unless he has abnormally sensitive skin or a blood condition, there's no way firing an AR-15 left a bruise.

SSgt Christopher Brose In absolute 100% honesty, if it's been a while since I've shot (and we all know how often the Corps will hook you up with trips to the range) I can end up with little bruises in my shoulder pocket. Maybe its my super pale skin, maybe its bad form, but I damn sure don't go whining about it. Just recognize the feedback that I'm not shooting often enough to callous up. Can you imagine if this joker spent a day shooting a .308? Or heaven forfend a single magazine through a Barret?

Capt Richard I P. I'm pigmentally challenged also. I'll concede the point that firing an AR-15 might leave a little bruising, but the guy made it sound like his whole shoulder turned purple.

I would LOVE to see the little b*tch fire an old-school Mauser or Enfield or Nagant. I have the feeling he'd cry after one shot. Or p*ss himself. Or both.

Temporary case of PTSD? How does one even have a temporary case? Slap some diapers on this cat and give him a pacifier. Damn baby.
