An interesting question. I wonder if any of those first slaves or their descendants found themselves among the black slaves held by Cherokees. It seems that slavery is a pernicious practice that has appealed to many throughout history. Even today, it is practiced with a kind of glee in many places around the world. In Muslim nations of the Middle East. In African nations. In households in Beverly Hills, CA. I would love to see US clean up our own homes so that we can set the example for the rest of the world. Fortunately, we are making progress under the new Administration. I'm hoping and praying that it continues...

SGT Mary G. - the foundation for ending slavery in England was theologically and philosophically developed by American Quakers, Wilberforce used their arguments to gain support for ending slavery. Slavery was never universally accepted in America after independence from England. Slavery, very early in American history, was outlawed in what was called the Northwest Territory. There was a continuous political move to limit slaver and the influance of slave states.. Before the civil war the importation of slaves was outlawed. People seem to forget slavery is an economic system, not a racial system. Racism was used to justify slavery. Slavery existed in the Americas long before 1619. Native American used slaves. The Spanish used native Americans as slaves. The Portuguese started the slave trade out of Western Africa to the Americas and used slaves in their colonies. The slave trade out of North Africa existed during Roman times. Muslims brought slaves from interior of Africa and Europe to the Middle East after they conquered North Africa. Barbary Pirates held an Island off the coast of England they used to secure European slaves.

So many live on hate; Hitler rose up a country and went to war over the hate of lesser people. Jews and Arabs, Indians and Pakistanis, and I am sure there are more.

MAJ Byron Oyler - actually Hitler tried to form alliances with the Arabs and had Arab diplomats visit concentration camps. Pakistan didn’t exist and India was ruled by Britain.
