Kukris. The ultimate sidearm. Never jam. No ammunition required. And face it, blades have a far greater psychological effect than bullets.

I noticed while in Iraq that the Iraqis didn't flinch when you pointed a rifle at them but if I pulled out my blade, they got scared. I had an Iraqi police officer explain to me that a bullet is a quick death while a knife usually means a slow and painful death. I guess it's all in how you look at it...

COL Ted Mc I'll tell you what is "modular" about the pistol if you tell me why the Brits add two additional letters to the word program.

One word Sir-contracting.

Seriously though; I'll never forget what one of the instructors at Riley told me when I asked for his opinion on the M9 vs. the 1911. "Sir, a sidearm is a weapon of last resort...if you need to draw it, you won't have to think about it too long."

LCDR (Join to see) - Commander; A theory tested by history and found to be completely valid.

It's one of those pieces of "Folk Wisdom" (like why Transport Officers don't actually need to be able to run - "By the time they have ACTUALLY to run, then everyone else is dead and there isn't any transport equipment left in operating condition.") that the people who sit at the big conference tables over catered lunches tend to ignore (because it would make their jobs so simple that someone of lesser rank could do it).
