If I'm correct, the A-29 beat out the "Texan II" currently used by the TRAWINGs as the contract light attack aircraft for Afghanistan's organic air defense forces. From a distance, they look almost identical...and I believe both have precedent for combat configuration in the third world. The "poor man's jet"?

Frankly-I feel it is a brilliant choice for the region: A highly maneuverable, low level attack aircraft that can engage longer, closer, faster? Didn't we briefly consider re-pops of the P-51D during Vietnam before the "SPAD" became the chosen platform?
