Thanks for letting us know SGT John " Mac " McConnell that Camp Verde was established on July 8, 1856 in Kerr County, Texas along the road from San Antonio to El Paso. I was surprised to see a camel in the picture but since it became the headquarters for U.S. Camel Corps that makes sense.

I'd heard the story, in American Caesar about Gen MacArthur by William Manchester, also, I think in the autobiombymgen MacArthur, Reminiscences, he recounts how, as a kid, while with his brother and parents in tje SW US, where his father had been assigned, he evidently actually saw one of the last surviving camels, from that experiment, near a fort his family had been stationed at, I'd read that some time back, just thought you might find of interest, many thanks .
