A few thoughts:
- Freedom of speech means that the government can not restrict what we say. It does NOT mean that our employer or our fellow citizens can not react (ie fire you) or peacefully respond to counter what you have to say.
- Freedom of speech does NOT mean freedom from consequences of others who react to what you have to say.
- Freedom of speech does NOT mean that I exercise my right to free speech by denying someone else their right to free speech. Strength of argument should be the main criteria not strength of voice (ie shout others down).
- Freedom of speech does NOT mean that a person or organization gets to shut down interstates or major roads and therefore interfere with my freedom of movement.
- Freedom of speech does NOT mean people get to shut down that speech which offends them (ie colleges/universities). If someone else's speech offends you then turn off the channel, walk away, or engage the person/organization with the strength of your counter argument.
- The mayor of San Jose blamed Trump and his rally for the violence. How's about blaming the protestors who became violent in response to the rally?

CPT Durish, "freedom from consequences" in the context of people thinking they can say whatever they want without any consequences whatsoever (ie say or write racist, bigoted, or other things and not be fired from their job, have people not use their business, etc), not in the context of committing criminal acts against people who happen to support a political candidate. There is no excuse for criminal behavior against people exercising their right to free speech. Look at the gist of all my comments taken together.

Why is it the liberals are protesting Trump, but conservative don't protest Bernie or Hillary, yet Trump and conservatives get the blame and are accused of creating a hostile environment?

SSG Patrick H.
Political tactics, when your message is only based in emotion not facts, this is the way they do it. Try to shut down those who oppose you through tyranny.

SSG Patrick H. I support and defend the right of people to protest and demonstrate in accordance with the law. Once they step outside of the law, however, they should be quickly and effectively dealt with by use of whatever reasonable force is necessary to make them comply with the law. Failure to comply should result in arrest, prosecution and imprisonment.
It is troubling when presidential candidates support such illegal action, as well as the current Administration.
