PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Excellent piece. The PKK (Turkish Kurds) and the PYD (Syrian Kurds) are aligned with each other. The YPG is the military arm of the political organization known as PYD. Turkey is against the Kurds because the Kurds want part of Turkey to be granted to them for the formation of their own country, as I'm sure you are aware and this is why Turkey is opposed to the U.S. supporting any of the Kurdish groups. The PKK and PYD are against ISIS and all it's forms which is why we support them. The PKK used the invasion by ISIS as an opportunity to change how they are viewed, from the organization fighting Turkey to the organization fighting ISIS.
