Yeah I'd read about the green acres TV star Eddie Albert who was in the film the longest day look him up on Wikipedia fascinating story he got I think a silver star or minimum a bronze with "v" I'm reasonably sure for saving Marines as an LCI landing craft commander off the taraw beaches, I think that's where it actually happened, you'd really like the story, hope was of interest, many thanks.

Yeah, it was anifty story, enjoy...whatnim about to say has nothing to do with Tarawa, however, if you want to read a cool story, look up the NARA/NPRC svc records for the actor steeling Hayden, who played the crazy general in the movie Dr strangelove with Peter sellers and George c Scott. He was merchant marine before ww2, then went USMC, assigned to OSS in Yugoslavia, running missions across German infested waters, really dangerous, I think in the Adriatic. His records were apparently madeublicly available on the NARA/NPRC website, I can't recall exactly where, though fascinating reading, you'd find the material well worth your time to peruse. He took a moment de guerre, an assumed name, John Hamilton, was promoted ultimately I think to Capt , and was decorated by Tito of Yugoslavia , and also rcvd either a bronze star, I think with "V", or a silver star, I can't recall which. Get his autobiography called Wanderer about his journey with his kids in a sailboat around the world, fascinating reading, hope was of interest, enjoy, many thanks.
