Capt Seid Waddell - The SPLC has solid reasons for labeling them a hate group and they are clearly articulated in the article I liked. I'm not sure why you believe that I, the SPLC or "the left" hate them... recognizing a group of people as a hate group, because they are spreading hate toward Americans who are LGBT is simply acknowledging their actions. There are plenty of groups who are opposed to LGBT rights that are not labeled as hate groups because they don't run around spreading lies and false science.

Maj John Bell - What reason do you have to believe that this issue isn't a big concern among LGBT Americans? I can't say one way or the other, however I doubt it would be an issue if civil rights activists were not pushing for change.

SSG (Join to see) - I don't have a reason to believe one way or another. I am not an advocate for or against LGBTQ lifestyles. It falls into the category of none of my business.
There are a half a dozen openly gay or lesbian couples in my social circle. All of them are also my customers. We commonly discuss current events at social events or when they are picking up their goods from me. Occasionally LGBT related topics are the topic of the day. LGBT bathroom use and the perception of danger has never come up as a problem they face. The most common complaint I hear is the difficulty they face when trying to adopt or serve as foster parents. There is not one of these couples that I would be uncomfortable leaving my grandchildren with. I do not know if any of them are transgender or not. Additionally our community is so small you'd probably have to drive 15-20 miles to find a business that has a gender specific multi-user restroom.

Maj John Bell - My understanding is is that only about 1 in 400 people is transgender, if I have ever come into contact with someone (outside of forums such as RallyPoint) who is transgendered, I didn't notice they were transgendered. That said, I imagine that life for those undergoing the change is extremely difficult, so difficult that roughly 40% of transgendered youth attempt suicide. Given that statistic, anything that makes a transgendered person feel more at ease in public would seem to be important and good.

The college should have just re-upped his contract and left it at that.
