A critical flaw in Symantec antivirus engine puts computers at risk of easy hacking

I second Avast but add SuperAntiSpyware and Ccleaner.

These kinds of things exist in all security software. The flaw was fixed Monday, so I'm not concerned... (too much)

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. A few years back, McAfee put out an update that made its AV Scanner think that a system file was a virus and so any company that updated and ran a scan blue screened their computers/servers.
