My AR isn't an Assault Weapon as I intend to use it for personal protection and in a defensive mode. I object to HRC calling my rifle an Assault Rifle. That would indicate that I intend to attack or assault someone which is not correct. I choose to call my rifle a Personal Protection Tool which will allows me to put rounds down range and stop most kinds of threats to me or my family right in the doorway of my home or any of the windows they might choose to enter my home by. I am not a war monger, a deviant or pro-anything just because I own a weapon that I carried in my service to my country, I became quite used to and was very good at shooting. HRC wants to challenge my right to own such a weapon go ahead and try it. It's just more political trash you want to rehash to garner votes you pathetic, pandering politician!

So, by your logic, I did not carry an assault rifle in Iraq because I was a medic and, according to the Geneva conventions, am not allowed to carry an offensive weapon. The M16 that was issued to me was for defensive purposes only, and therefore, not an assault weapon. I like how you twist logic to appease your own conscience. Not sure it really works for me, though.

Well if you are pushing forward into an enemy area do you shoot first or just return fire at the enemy? I would call that a defensive posture as you are just trying to save yourself or your buddies. In this case they are assauling you first. It's my understanding in Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Afghanistan there were ROE rules that stated you could return fire but weren't supposed to be the aggressor. Could be miscommunication on my part. Certainly there are times when ROE dictates that if you see a fellow dressed like an enemy, screaming Allahu Akbar and toting an AK you shoot him or her before they shoot you, then yes call your rifle an assault weapon cause you definitely assaulted somebody. I am speaking strictly from a civilian point of view. I am not out hunting would be burglars, rapists and miscreants so in my case my rifle is a self defense weapon. I won't call it an assault weapon because I am not out looking to assault someone. Enter my home without my permission and threaten my family and I will use that rifle to defend my home and the ones I love. So its a defensive weapon. I think you are 100% right in saying that your rifle if you carried one would be to defend injured soldiers in your care and yourself against the enemy so yes your rifle in Iraq was a self defense weapon too! God Bless you and thanks for your service to our country. You are another unsung hero in my opinion.

Now a days they have stated that most rifles aren't born as Assault Rifles. It becomes one when you put quad-rail fore-arms and a vertical forearm grip on it. This frightens some people in our country and I think its because they feel it makes the rifle look evil and capable of causing mayhem on its own? Never did understand that mentality when it comes to accessories for my weapon? I think it feels comfortable to carry, aim and fire. Have a great day!

SGT Edward Wilcox - AR actually stands for the "Armalite Rifle" or precursor to the M-16. It was to identify the manufacturer.

The very first Hillary quote of this article proves she knows very little of how criminals operate. She is naive. Criminals do not care what laws are there....they are CRIMINALS. As far as her term assault rifle, if any one agrees, here....read this. http://www.assaultweapon.info/ Also the second amendment is there for our gun rights. She doesn't get to decide which guns we can and can't keep. For those that don't know, ordinary every day civilians can have fully automatic weapons. They just have to have a lot of money to buy the weapon (usualy $10k+), pass a background check, and pay $200 for their Class 3 NFA tax. Here's a link for that too. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/05/21/machine-guns-legal-practical-guide-full-auto/

SGT Edward Wilcox - Not it's not, and this is very well reflected in the fact that no private citizen who committed a mass shooting has done so using a converted AR15. The technology and knowledge to do so has existed for about fifty years yet no criminal has done it.

SGT Aaron Atwood - They have not, that is true. But was it because the process is difficult, or because the trigger assemblies for the M4/M16 are controlled items, and hard to come by? Or because they did not think of such a thing? Or, maybe, they were just too lazy or cheap to attempt it? The fact that it has not been done is not an indication that any one of these reasons is more right than the others.

SGT Edward Wilcox - There are an estimated 350 million guns and 18 billion rounds in private citizens hands, in America. While I certainly grieve for any death by firearm, the number of deaths is not even a statistic according to the number of guns.My uncle did a swan dive over a bridge railing to commit suicide. He lay in a hospital bed in a shattered mess for 3 weeks before he died.An easily gotten firearm would have been more humane for him and the family. As a law abiding gun owner,I refuse to be brow beatten by a tree hugger. If you really want to save lives, throw away your cell phone.1.1 million birds die each year from flying into phone towers.Sorry that this is tacky, but I bought a .22 in1959 that holds 17 rounds in the tube.According to Nancy Pelosi;this is an assalt rifle.

AR15 lower receivers are made out of aluminum as opposed to steel, and any metallurgist worth his/her salt will tell you that aluminum is much harder to work with. That's why finding good welders is hard; harder still to find good aluminum welders. The brittleness of aluminum is also why ARs still have a reputation for being a rifle that can break quite easily when compared to other rifles simply by dropping it from a certain height. Also, even if this wasn't the case the vast majority of the criminals in existence value concealment and mobility. Pistols, knives, and weapons of opportunity are far easier to hide, and run with.

I agree with the spirit of the other posts. Even though our Constitution "guarantees" our rights, those rights have already been infringed and eroded in certain states, like CA where I reside. If there is a foothold here, it stands to reason HRC can attempt to make similar inroads nationally.

I just pray there is enough resistance nationally and I have a glimmer of hope still because conservatives control the Senate and House at this point and outside a few liberal, socialist-leaning states, the rest of the country is increasingly mindful of 2nd Amendment rights and friendly to CCW's/constitutional carry. For now, the "assault weapon ban" has not been renewed and reinstating it on a federal level will require overcoming considerable hurdles.

Personally, Instill grieve for us living in those other oppressive states.

Yes, I'm pretty familiar with NY....sadly, even more oppressive than CA. Even DC relaxed a little.

I sure hope they do not decide to reinact theAssault Rifle ban.I would have to give up my .22 I bought in 1955. Wow ! I`ve had that rifle for 61 years and it has never shot anyone.
