Every time someone's had a bad experience with the VA I count myself to being pretty lucky because I never had a real problem with them.

At VA, we like to cite President Lincoln's quote, which serves as our department motto, "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan." I like that we have a motto that summarizes the crux of what we are striving to achieve but, I feel that it is a bit outdated at this point. We all know what VA does. What our motto should be reflecting is how we do it. I tend to think that the quote by General Omar Bradley would better serve us now, "We are dealing with veterans, not procedures. With their problems, not ours." I work with that quote in mind every day. Of course, I also work with the burden of 95-years of mismanagement on my mind as well. That's why I always encourage folks to speak positively about VA, when appropriate.
Thanks for the balanced read, SSgt ODonnell. That was my reminder for the day that we still have a lot of work left to do.
