Cpl (Join to see) I will start by saying that despite all of the joking, I do respect the Marine Corps. I lay that out because whether or not it should be renamed, we have so many serious issues that need to be resolved that a name is a stupid thing to be arguing over right now. Additionally, we have had how many government shutdowns, furloughs, and other fuck ups in the last ten years? Now you want to spend more money we don't have for a name change. Cart before the horse. Let's get our budget settled, debt paid, and once we have surplus money, I will go stand shoulder to shoulder with the Marines and let congress know that the Marines deserve recognition.

I doubt if many (or if any) think of the cost of changing a department name. How many doors, signs, etc, etc, etc, to be replace. Then there's the forms and stationary. Think of it. A veritable mountain of paper. Nothing is cheap, especially when a bureaucrat is involved.

CPT Jack Durish - At my current job, I am an IT guy, but the maintenance has fallen on me. Every year the Fire Marshall has some new signage requirement. So every year I am spending $60-$100 in signs just for our one building. Imagine changing all the signs in say the Pentagon? Also new flags for the department Navy/USMC wide. So yeah it would add up quick.

Cpl (Join to see) - the simple cost of designing the signage when the government is involved would be YUGE!

Marines were similar to the Seabees being a subordinate organization to the Navy during WWII.
They worked well together and supported each other In the Pacific Theater they would island hopped with the Marine making the rough ride on some of the first LST to hit the beach.
The iconic picture of the Seabee bulldozer operator clearing a portion of beach with his blade as his only form of protection
