Good article. The important thing to take away from this article is that you can't 'drill it' every day. Recovery is just as important as high-intensity training. I have used a heart monitor forever, ALL of my cardio is dictated by heart rate, I used to try and train by 'feel' but, I discovered I was not pushing as hard as I thought I was without my monitor. Also, it's important to have a rest day where the most strenuous thing you do is go for a walk or work on flexibility. And drink water!

In my day 2 mi / day was the minimum. Some days we ran 5+ mi/beach runs in high surf/Heartbreak hill till we puked/ or obstacle course multiple times. Rest day?? What's that? We PT w/ runs every day.
My 2 mi was easy. Find the fastest person @ it and keep up w/ him. Easy peasy to max out. NO training needed.

man do I hate the 2 mile run.
In my case I am doing Orange Theory to keep my cardio and during my days off I train doing endurance for 3-4 miles
good article thanks for sharing.
