Meh. It sounds like the Russian pilot was just showing off. Of course it was "unsafe and unprofessional", that's how Russians do things.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how some of these American desk jockeys think. We send in a recon asset to just outside the territorial limit, provoking a response, and then we get upset that the provoked response was too provoking? Hey, if we were in international territory, it means they were too. I guess it's the Russian pilot's good fortune that he doesn't have to answer to an American paper pusher, otherwise he'd probably be grounded for doing some creative flying.

Want to impress the Russians? Show them you have nerves of steel by flying straight no matter what they do, and don't let them catch you whining about it afterward.

Well sounds like it all ended well. Better than the last time a Chinese Fight Jock played with a US Navy EP-3. Guess Putin misses the Good Old/Bad Old Days of the Cold War and we're back to SOP. The Song remains the Same. Actually we knew what was going to happen when that Plane took off and it was there to gauge the Russian Response and the Russian Challenged Us. Next time it may be a milder response. Always keep them guessing.

Guarantee we collected some Elint, Comint, Sigint and Photint on that Jet Fighter and it's Command and Control that responded. That is the Nature of the game. Smack a Bee Hive and start counting the Bees.

"International Waters/Airspace" in my day was 18 miles from your coast and your "Economic Zone" was like 250 miles. We may been in "International" Airspace but close enough that most any country would consider it threatening.
