I know a very few military milliomaire's. I can count them on one hand. No I am not one of them! Anyhow, they did it through astute investing with mil-pay, being VERY thrifty and outside ventures such as real-estate and a like minded-spouse and her income. It took years and years, like over a decade. I imagine there are a great many more reservists/Nat'l Guard who own business' and are wealthy yet stay military for various reasons. My suppositions all - great question MAJ Michael Pauling!

My rule is that if I cannot buy something in cash, then I simply cannot afford it. There are only two a things one should ever buy that they cannot afford, and they are an education (in a major that earns money) and a home, and even those should be paid for as aggressively as possible.

Yes, military service by someone who saves over many years can make you a millionaire. Gathering a million doesn't mean much if you don't have the income to support your family when you retire. Many 'retired' military continue to work just for that reason to build the wealth and income needed to truly retire without working.
