It shouldn't bother me, but poorly rendered salutes in TV features and movies grates. Why can't they spend a couple dollars on a consultant to teach actors how to do it properly? It seems that, whether you're aware of it or not, rendering a proper salute, that is rendering respect, was drilled into each and every one of us who serve/served. It's no wonder then, that so many will find this article interesting.
BTW, is it true that the salute is not required while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance indoors? I had to look this one up...

SGT Edward Wilcox - That's an interesting point. The President is the Commander-in-Chief of all US Armed Forces. Would that make him a member? Interestingly, many heads of state wear military uniforms in recognition of this same fact.

CPT Jack Durish - The Constitution is very clear on the fact that we are a Civilian controlled Military. By definition, that makes the Commander-in-Chief a civilian, regardless of prior military service. Yes, I know, Obama did not serve. I was referring to all the other Presidents that did. Those Heads of State that wear a military uniform are, themselves, members of their country's military. They are, also, and almost to a man, dictators. This, of course, does not include members of Royal families that have no political control over their countries.

Speaking of Movie salutes. I am a big fan of the series JAG. Have the DVDs and still watch. Get to see my old home The Enterprise once in awhile, although I never understood why the writers choose to call it by a different name when they call others by there correct name. But back to the subject. That's one show that most of the time the salutes are correct to real life...Just something I notice.

I agree. I watch TV and squirm. I asked my husband the same question. Why don't they have someone to tell them that not only does it show the public the wrong way, but it disrespects us as soldiers.
